Obituary of Joseph LEO Richard
October 23, 1929 ~ January 20, 2025
It is with sadness in our hearts that the family announce the passing of Joseph Leo Richard of Wellington, on Monday, January 20, 2025 at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, at the age of 95 years. Born in Mont-Carmel on October 23, 1929, he was the loving husband of 73 years to Eva Richard (née Cormier), and beloved son of the late Cyrus Richard and Victoire Richard (née Gallant) of Mont-Carmel. Leo was the last surviving member of his family.
Leo was the loving father to Anne (Wayne), Paul (Debbie), Roma (Dan) and Louise (Stephen). He will be forever remembered by his grandchildren: Michelle (Darren), Stephen, Jamie (Alex) Jenna (Drew) and Connor (Madi); by great grandchildren: Jacob, Taylor (Chase), Mackenzie, Bella and Rosie. His brothers and sisters-in-law: Yvonne (Adelard – deceased), Albert, Yvon (Yvette), Doris and Brenda will cherish fond memories of him. He will always be remembered by special friends of the family: Cathy C, Shawna B and Robert O; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents, brothers and sisters: Alfred, Austin, Albain (Marie), Nazaire (Sophie), Rev. Emmanuel, Thérése (Adrien), Melina (Ernest - 1st marriage) (Vernon – 2nd marriage) and Adelard (Aline); by brothers and sisters-in-law Anita (Narcisse), Aline (Gérald), Marc, MarieAnne (Jeb 1st marriage) (Dean 2nd marriage). Léo (Thérèse) Louis and Rev. Eddie.
Leo worked for the Irving Oil Company as a delivery truck driver for over 30 years and many of those years, with his dog (pug) Spike. His hobby was cutting wood. Both Clarence Richard and Eric Arsenault would keep an eye on him to make sure he didn’t get hurt in the woods. Playing cards was his joy. You could often hear him say “Now play cards and stop talking”. He was a volunteer fireman for the Wellington Fire Department for approximately 30 years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Resting at the Évangéline Funeral Home 900 Route 124, Urbainville, for visiting hours on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 10:45 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, in Richmond. Interment in the Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel Church Cemetery at a later date.
