Russ has been a delightful addition to the Hayes family over the past 25 years. My sister, Brenda, and Russ have been soulmates from the start. Together, they have been true partners and great parents to Christopher, To top it off, Russ and Brenda were hilarious comedians. With all the ups and downs over the years, you could count on Russ to say something funny to add to the mix. And Brenda always had his back, or should I say was his accomplice.
Dear Russ, you will be dearly missed by all of us here. Enjoy your time with our family in heaven. And if there is Facebook up there, all I can say is: good luck with that!
Love you,
Delores Hayes

My cousin Russ was a great guy. He had a great sense of humour and a contagious laugh. He talked for so long about leaving Ontario, and seemed to be very happy living in PEI with his love Brenda. I remember a couple of years ago seeing Russ being interviewed on CBC news. It was so funny to see him on television we kept rewinding it and re-watching him and we told everyone we could think of about him making the national news. I met a person through my work that knew Russ from working with him at Consumers Gas. I don't remember how we figured out the connection, but I do remember how fond she was of Russ. She talked about how nice he was and how much she enjoyed working with him. We had some laughs over the years, often bantering about our differing political views. And, I remember how much Russ and his siblings and his mom, my Aunty Kathy were central in our lives as kids growing up. My brothers idolized Russ. Every time we visited Pharmacy Avenue the boys left with treasures from Russ's room! Russ and Brenda were both very kind to my parents and made sure to maintain a connection with them, even after they moved to PEI. Both of my parents loved getting cards from Russ and Brenda as they tended to send the most amazing and artistic cards. I am sorry that Russ has gone onto the next life when he should have had so much more time here on earth, with his love Brenda on Prince Edward Island. He was loved by many and will be missed terribly. Rest Easy Russ I will keep an eye on the politicians for you.

My brother Russell was the baby in the family of four.
Over the years Russ and I worked at the same companies. First was Burroughs Business Machines, then Consumers Gas (Enbridge). We worked in Reprographics which combined Printing and Graphics. Russ always said it was the best job he ever had and we worked with great people!
When working we saw each other every day. Russ would drop by my desk and say “Good Morning”, and sometimes bring me a treat. My favorite was Zucchini Loaf, in which I still have the recipe.
During my cancer treatments in 2010, Russ drove me to Centennial Hospital, in Toronto. I was very fortunate to have him help me.
A number of years ago Russ and Brenda decided to go on an adventure to PEI. After that trip they decided along with Chris, to move to PEI. They brought a house in Bonshaw only seeing pictures provided by the Real Estate agenr. It was Russ’s dream to have a huge piece of land in the country. Life was good, exploring the island, working and buying another dog “Willow”.
Willow and Russ were inseparable, going to Victoria by the Sea for long walks, and car rides. No one would come between them. If we tried to sit next to Russ, Willow managed to push us apart, so she could be besides him.
I have so many great memories of my brother, and cherish them all. He will be forever in my heart and dreams.
